California Veterans Benefits

California offers one state benefit program to residents of the state, the Cal College Fee Waiver (CFW). The program benefits the spouse and children of U.S. veterans. Students meeting the eligibility criteria may get their college fees waived if they attend a California Community College, a California State University, or University of California campus.

Disclaimer: Students enrolling in self-supporting programs cannot use Cal Vet Tuition/Fee Waivers. These programs are not supported with state funds and are not subject to the state law regarding Cal Vet Tuition/Fee Waivers. The Cal Vet Fee Waiver may only be applied to Summer Session course fees if you are a continuing UC student. Campus fees are not waived by Cal Vet.

Eligibility is determined by your local California county Veterans Services Office. This web site will guide you through the process. It is your responsibility to notify the UCSC Veterans Benefit Services Office by submitting a copy of your eligibility letter.

The Cal College Fee Waiver must be renewed annually by contacting your local California county Veterans Services Office. The program provides UC systemwide fee waivers for spouses and children of deceased or disabled veterans.
