Q: How do I request a name change in AIS?[show]

A: Employees have the option to request a name change in AIS.

  • If the employee is not a former student, the new name will be used throughout AIS.
  • If the employee is a former student, a professional name will be created in AIS. The student name will still be associated with student records, including:
    • The official transcript
    • Degrees
    • Narrative evaluations
  • Staff or faculty who are also current students cannot be given a professional name, but they can specify a preferred name or request a legal name change if appropriate. Please see the student FAQs for more information.

No documentation is required to process a professional name change in AIS. Requests should be emailed to the Registrar’s systems team, regsys@ucsc.edu, and should include the current name, the desired name, and the CruzID or AIS ID number.

Staff and faculty who are not current students may also change their own name in the campus directory.

Employees who require a legal name change can update their name directly on the UCPath portal. Changing your legal name will not cause your name to be updated in AIS. You must request an AIS name change per the above instructions.

Students who wish to change their name in AIS should view the information available in FAQs for Students: Personal and Privacy Information.
