Placement Exams

Fall Quarter 2024

Language placement exams are necessary for students who have not passed the prerequisite UCSC course. Students do not take a placement exam when enrolling at level 1 in a language they have never studied, EXCEPT FOR SPANISH. Students must take the placement exam to gain entry into Spanish level 1. Students who have had language instruction prior to UCSC must take the placement exam if they intend to continue study in that language.

FRENCH LANGUAGE

SPANISH LANGUAGE
Any student interested in taking Spanish must take the placement examination—even if you've never studied Spanish before. The placement exam is an online exam and can be taken at any time. The website for the Spanish placement examination is https://spanishplacement.ucsc.edu/. NOTE: It takes 3 to 4 days for your exam results to be posted—make sure you complete the placement exam a minimum of one week prior to your designated appointment time for Advance Enrollment.
